This number is a <g class=\"gr_ gr_203 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del\" id=\"203\" data-gr-id=\"203\">tax<\/g> number that you will need if you want to work in the country and open an account in some banks. The Spanish have a number that accomplishes the same purpose called NIF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bancos populares en Alicante<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/alicanteabout.com\/es\/lugares\/donde-esta-alicante-espana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alicante<\/a>, there are branches of all the big Spanish banks, such as CaixaBank (Bankia merged into it in 2021), Banco Sabadell, BBVA and Banco Santander. All big banks try to have, at least, a branch in each important city so it might be useful to open an account in one of the most popular entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to mention that many banks in Spain usually charge a fee for taking out money from the cash machine from different banks&#8217; ATMs. If getting cash out is essential to you you might double-check that before opening a bank account in traditional entities. Probably ING is one of the banks with the most flexible conditions to access cash for free. This is a typical characteristic of Banks in Alicante, Spain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Por qu\u00e9 necesitar\u00eda un banco tradicional en Espa\u00f1a<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los bancos tradicionales en Espa\u00f1a tienen la mayor parte del mercado. Los espa\u00f1oles tienden a ser m\u00e1s conservadores que otras nacionalidades cuando hablamos de productos financieros y bancos. Eso significa que todo el mundo te recomendar\u00e1 y propondr\u00e1 abrir una cuenta en uno de los bancos m\u00e1s tradicionales, ya que es lo que utilizan y conocen. Eso te dar\u00e1 algunas ventajas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acceda a los servicios exclusivos Bizzum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The biggest Spanish banks have teamed up to offer a service called <a aria-label=\"Bizzum (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/bizum.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><g class=\"gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"8\" data-gr-id=\"8\">Bizzum<\/g><\/a>. This allows you to transfer the money instantaneously to your friends using the phone number. Both people need to be using Bizzum so they need a bank that supports the service. They have deliberately excluded some small and foreign banks to have a competitive advantage against them. Many young people use the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acceso a transferencias de dinero instant\u00e1neas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">For years, transfers between Spanish banks could take up to 3 days to complete. That changed on 9 October 2025: under the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2024\/886\/oj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EU Instant Payments Regulation<\/a>, every bank in the eurozone must offer instant euro transfers, 24\/7, for no more than the price of a normal transfer, and check the payee&#8217;s name before sending the money. So most transfers now arrive in seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Por qu\u00e9 no necesita un banco tradicional en Alicante<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los bancos tradicionales en Espa\u00f1a tienden a ser torpes. Todos tienen una aplicaci\u00f3n para Android y iPhone, pero muchas veces sigue siendo necesario acudir a las sucursales para abrir una cuenta o sacar una tarjeta nueva. Adem\u00e1s, son caros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comisiones en los bancos espa\u00f1oles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los bancos espa\u00f1oles son muy conocidos por tener altas comisiones. Es muy importante que compruebes tres veces las condiciones y sepas si te van a cobrar dinero por tener la cuenta abierta, por tener una tarjeta de d\u00e9bito o por cualquier otra norma que puedan venir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adem\u00e1s, es muy importante que sepas d\u00f3nde puedes sacar dinero gratis y d\u00f3nde no. Les encanta competir entre ellos no permitiendo a los clientes de otras entidades sacar dinero gratis... y puede cambiar de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rentabilidad en los bancos espa\u00f1oles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La otra cara de la moneda es la rentabilidad. Ning\u00fan banco del mundo har\u00e1 un buen trabajo de tus muchos en comisiones pero los espa\u00f1oles est\u00e1n por debajo de la media en ello. La forma en que suelen ofrecer las mejores comisiones es al comprar un producto financiero, que puede ser arriesgado o no, y comprometes tu dinero por el plazo fijo... e intentar\u00e1n venderte los productos financieros utilizando a los empleados de las sucursales o sus apps. Comprueba siempre dos veces antes de comprar nada de esto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Buscar un banco con IBAN espa\u00f1ol<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">If you are from Europe you might know that transfers between the Eurozone are free of charge. Theoretically, the law is set to allow you to, for example, receive a salary in any euro bank even if it is not Spanish.  In practice, some Spanish companies and administrations still ask for a Spanish account, so you might find issues using a bank with a foreign <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Bank_Account_Number\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IBAN<\/a>. Be sure that your bank (no issues if it is a traditional one) offers a Spanish IBAN starting with the international code &#8220;ES&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Si necesita una cuenta bancaria en Espa\u00f1a utilice un Neobank<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los neobancos son peque\u00f1as y medianas empresas que est\u00e1n irrumpiendo en el sector financiero en toda Europa. Suelen ofrecer condiciones mucho mejores que los grandes bancos. Por ejemplo, para atraer clientes, pueden no cobrarte la comisi\u00f3n que cobran los grandes bancos por sacar tu dinero del cajero. O podr\u00e1 pagar gratis en otra divisa. Son seguras porque todas las entidades financieras deben seguir las normas de garant\u00eda de dep\u00f3sitos bancarios que puedan regir en sus pa\u00edses de origen. Es la forma m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida de solucionarlo casi sin complicaciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">N26<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is probably your best option. N26 is a bank and they offer Spanish IBAN. It has no maintenance fee, so if you leave Spain after some time you can keep your account open. The virtual card is free; the physical card has a one-off shipping fee of 10\u20ac, and you get 2 free cash withdrawals a month in the eurozone (checked 11 October 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any fee they might charge is communicated openly and transparently to you. They have an app and a website for accessing the online banking platform. Your money is guaranteed by the German deposit guarantee scheme, up to \u20ac100,000. You can click here to open an account. Just so you know, I might do a bit of money if you use that link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Otras opciones que no son tan buenas como parecen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a few more digital banks that might look appealing. Revolut is a bank with a branch in Spain (Revolut Bank UAB) that gives Spanish IBANs, but it doesn&#039;t offer mortgages in Spain yet. Bnext, a Spanish start-up, stopped offering personal accounts in April 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be aware of the differences these new banks have with traditional financial institutions such as Sabadell or Santander. For example, Revolut&#8217;s deposits are covered by the Lithuanian deposit guarantee, up to 100,000\u20ac per customer, not by the Spanish one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are better set with a bank such as N26, Openbank (Santander&#8217;s fully online brand) or ING as your main bank, and you can use other apps as a secondary account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Also, in Spain is very popular the usage of <a href=\"https:\/\/bizum.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bizzum<\/a>. So when integrating with locals it is easier to have one account in one traditional bank to get access to the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">I hope you have now a better idea of what are the characteristics of banks in Alicante, Spain.
