In Alicante, there are a few public swimming pools. Those are quite good for doing sports, improving your swimming abilities or just going for a swim. Here’s where they are and what each one offers.

IAlicante has three municipal swimming pools managed and funded by the council (but all Alicante beaches are public and free to use). The prices are lower in comparison with privately owned swimming pools. They are located in 3 areas of the city, far from each other.

Piscina en Monte Tossal
The first indoor/outdoor swimming pool is located in Monte Tossal, which translates into Tossal Hill (it is located, obviously, on the top of a hill). Its official name is José Antonio Chicoy, and it is part of a bigger municipal sports centre. There are 2 swimming pools.

Horario Piscina Tossal
El horario de la piscina es:
| Días de la semana | Tiempo Abierto |
| De lunes a viernes | 8:00h to 21:30h |
| De sábado a domingo | 8:00 to 14:00 |
Hours are reduced during transition periods (September/October). Always check the official schedule for current times.
Indoor Swimming Pool
The indoor swimming pool has a length of 25 meters, and there are 8 lanes available. The water temperature is controlled, and 2 lines will be reserved for people using flippers. When there are programmed courses, 2 or 3 lines will be closed for the people in the class, while the rest of the swimming pool is open for solo swimmers.
Every now and then, they will organise events and the public can assist and sit on their terraces.
Horario Piscina Cubierta Tossal
The indoor swimming pool closes in summer to let swimmers use the outdoor swimming pool, según el anuncio oficial del ayuntamiento (en español).
The indoor swimming pool typically closes in summer (around mid-June) so swimmers can use the outdoor pool instead, and reopens in autumn. Check the official schedule for exact dates each year.
Piscina al aire libre
The outdoor swimming pool is 50 meters long, Olympic-sized, and it will open only during the summer. There is enough space to sunbathe on a towel in the terrace area. Inside the complex, there is a small swimming pool with a fountain in the middle. Perfect for children. The water temperature is not controlled, but it is warm in summer.

This swimming pool is great for going by car as there is plenty of free parking space around. Every now and then, a sports event will happen and, for a few hours during the competition, parking will be impossible. It doesn’t often happen, though.
There is also a small swimming pool with a fountain in the middle, perfect for enjoying with the family.

Horario Piscina Exterior Tossal
The outdoor pool typically opens around early June and closes at the end of September, when the indoor pool reopens. Exact dates change each year — check the official schedule page for the current season.
The public transport links are not the best. The only line that will leave you very near the Monte Tossal piscina es línea 39. Otra buena opción es línea 05, which will drop you off ~8 minutes away on foot.
Si prefiere ir en bicicleta, hay espacio para encadenarla junto a la puerta principal.

Currently closed for maintenance (as of February 2026). The Concejalía de Deportes has not announced a reopening date. Check the official notice. I will do my best to keep this updatd but you can also contact piscinas@alicante.es for the latest updates.
Este complejo cubierto es más pequeño que Monte Tossal. There is only a 25-meter swimming pool with 6 lanes. The water temperature is controlled, and they have a sauna and jacuzzi that are usually broken and closed to the public. There are fast lines for using flipper,s and depending on the class schedule, some lines will be closed.

Even having a private parking lot, there is less space for cars than in other pools, as it is usually busy. Anyhow, it is still possible to find a spot after a few minutes of searching. On the dedicated spots next to the main

Como en las otras piscinas, algunas líneas estarán reservadas para cursos y nadadores rápidos que utilizan aletas.

¿Qué se puede hacer en las piscinas públicas?
The swimming pools in Alicante offer courses designed for children, adults/teenagers and retired people. You can choose to go there and swim free by yourself or join one of the classes. If you finally decide to join a course, the only restriction is that you have to join in advance for a full quarter. Here’s how it works.
